About The Position

PLNU is seeking a relational and student-focused Career Advisor to support undergraduate and graduate students in career exploration, professional development, and career readiness. This role partners closely with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers to deliver meaningful advising, student engagement initiatives, and strategic career programming that prepares students for success beyond graduation. Due to this position’s daily interaction with students and campus visitors, this role is fully in person.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or two to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, including presentation and facilitation skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to be empathetic to the needs of a culturally diverse student body
  • Strong computer skills to support marketing, communication, and data management
  • A growing and dynamic Christian faith naturally communicated through words and actions
  • A sense of mission and commitment to the personal development of college students
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, staff agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.
  • Work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time
  • Use of computer equipment including keyboard, mouse, and monitor
  • Ability to read documents, email, reports, and other correspondence on paper and computer monitor
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone
  • Ability to stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 20 pounds throughout the day

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group career advising to undergraduate and graduate students and alumni
  • Support students in career exploration, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, networking, LinkedIn optimization, internship searches, graduate school planning, and job search strategies
  • Deliver workshops, classroom presentations, and career development programming in collaboration with campus partners
  • Create career-related content and communications using digital platforms and communication tools
  • Research and share information related to internships, career opportunities, graduate schools, conferences, and professional associations
  • Support implementation of Career Services initiatives designed to promote career readiness across the student experience
  • Build relationships with faculty, student organizations, Student Life departments, alumni, and employers to strengthen student engagement and career opportunities
  • Support employer relations efforts and assist with updating information and communications through the ERM platform
  • Assist with marketing and communication efforts including newsletters, email campaigns, websites, social media, and promotional materials
  • Coordinate logistics for career events, workshops, presentations, and employer engagement opportunities
  • Provide front desk support including greeting visitors, responding to emails and calls, and supporting daily office operations
  • Schedule presentations, workshops, and employer events while supporting event setup, coordination, and follow-up activities
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned in support of Career Services initiatives and university priorities
