About The Position

The Career Services Advisor provides comprehensive career guidance and support to students pursuing careers in health care. The role involves helping students explore career options, develop job-search strategies, and prepare for employment in various health care professions. The Career Services Advisor collaborates with faculty, employers, and industry professionals to connect students with job opportunities, internships, and certification pathways. This role is essential in guiding students through the transition from vocational training to the health care workforce.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Career Counseling, Education, Health Sciences, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in career advising, preferably in a health care or educational setting
  • Strong knowledge of the health care industry, including career pathways, certification requirements, and job market trends.
  • Experience with resume writing, interview coaching, and job search strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with students, faculty, and healthcare employers.
  • Proficiency in using career services platforms, job search tools, and database management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Career Counseling & Guidance:
  • Meet with students one-on-one to discuss career goals and opportunities.
  • Assist students in identifying strengths, interests, and skills that align with specific health care professions.
  • Help students understand industry demands, certification requirements, and licensing processes for various health care fields.
  • Job Search & Placement Assistance:
  • Support students in developing effective job search strategies, including resume writing, interview preparation, and professional networking.
  • Assist students in creating tailored resumes, cover letters, and professional portfolios specific to health care jobs.
  • Conduct mock interviews and provide feedback to prepare students for interviews with health care employers.
  • Maintain and update job boards with current health care job openings, internships, and externship opportunities.
  • Industry Partnerships & Employer Relations:
  • Build and maintain relationships with local hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and other health care employers to create job and internship opportunities for students.
  • Coordinate with employers to organize recruitment events, job fairs, and on-campus interviews.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and workforce needs in the health care sector to align student career preparation with employer expectations.
  • Internships & Externships Coordination:
  • Collaborate with faculty and health care employers to identify internship and externship opportunities for students.
  • Assist Campus Director and Clinical Coordinator in identifying internship sites.
  • Ensure that internship sites meet educational and professional development goals in alignment with the school’s curriculum.
  • Career Development Workshops & Events:
  • Plan and conduct workshops on career-related topics, such as resume writing, job search techniques, interviewing skills, and professionalism in the health care workplace.
  • Organize career fairs and networking events to connect students with health care professionals and potential employers.
  • Provide guidance on soft skills development, including communication, teamwork, and leadership, which are essential in the health care environment.
  • Professional Licensing & Certification Support:
  • Assist students in understanding the steps required for certification and licensing in their chosen health care fields, such as nursing (NCLEX), medical assistant certification (CMA), phlebotomy certification, and other programs.
  • Provide resources and guidance on exam preparation, continuing education requirements, and licensure applications.
  • Ensure students are aware of the deadlines and requirements for state or national certification exams.
  • Career Resource Development:
  • Develop and maintain career resources, including industry guides, job search tools, and certification information specific to health care careers.
  • Stay up to date on health care industry trends, including job market outlooks, salary expectations, and emerging roles.
  • Create digital and physical career resources to support students in their job search and career development.
  • Alumni Support & Career Tracking:
  • Maintain relationships with alumni to offer continued career support, job placement services, and networking opportunities.
  • Track graduates' employment outcomes to assess the effectiveness of career services and identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintain data on student employment rates, placement statistics, and employer feedback for reporting and accreditation.
  • Assist Campus Director in the submission of the OEDS report to BPSS.
  • Collaborate with alumni to create mentorship opportunities and foster connections between current students and working professionals in health care.
  • Collaboration with Faculty & Administration:
  • Work closely with faculty, admissions department, and school administration to integrate career development into the curriculum and ensure alignment with health care training programs.
  • Provide faculty with feedback on student performance and job readiness to ensure students meet industry expectations.
