About The Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Career Services, the Career Counselor provides comprehensive career development support to students and alumni through individual and group counseling, workshops, and programming focused on career exploration, job readiness, resume and cover letter development, interviewing skills, and professional development. The position assists students and alumni in identifying and pursuing employment, internship, and graduate study opportunities while also serving as a liaison to academic units to strengthen collaboration and expand career-related partnerships. In addition, the Career Counselor supports the planning and coordination of career events such as job fairs, networking sessions, and employer engagement activities, maintains career systems and outcome data, prepares reports, and represents the Office of Career Services at campus and external events to promote student success and career readiness.

Requirements

  • Ability to develop and facilitate workshops, presentations, and training programs.
  • Experience building collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, employers, and community organizations.
  • Proficiency with career management systems, student information systems, and customer relationship management platforms; experience with Handshake and Banner preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and related software applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group career counseling to students and alumni on career exploration, job readiness, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, professional etiquette, job search strategies, and graduate or continuing education planning.
  • Develop and deliver career workshops and presentations on topics such as career exploration, professional branding, interviewing skills, workplace readiness, and career planning strategies.
  • Recommend and connect students and alumni to employment and academic opportunities including internships, job placements, graduate programs, and professional development resources aligned with individual career goals.
  • Serve as liaison to assigned academic units by collaborating with faculty and staff to integrate career development into academic programs, strengthen employer engagement, and expand career readiness initiatives.
  • Coordinate career events and programs in collaboration with employers, recruiters, faculty, staff, and community partners, including job fairs, internship fairs, networking events, employer information sessions, and career conferences.
  • Maintain and update career management systems and databases by entering and tracking student appointments, employer contacts, job postings, internship opportunities, career events, and employment outcome data.
  • Prepare, analyze, and submit reports on career counseling activities and employment outcomes to support assessment, compliance, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Represent the Office of Career Services at campus, employer, and community events, including participation in off-site engagements and recruitment activities.
  • Utilize social media and communication platforms to promote career services resources, events, and opportunities such as LinkedIn engagement, email outreach, and digital postings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental operations and student success initiatives.
