About The Position

The Career Navigator plays a central role in supporting participants to successfully enter and sustain employment in construction and related trades. This position provides comprehensive career navigation services, including job readiness preparation, training coordination, job placement, and long-term retention support. Working closely with participants, employers, and program staff, the Career Navigator ensures participants are prepared for employment, connected to job opportunities, and supported in maintaining employment for at least 12 months. This role requires strong relationship-building skills, the ability to work collaboratively across systems, and a commitment to supporting individuals with diverse backgrounds and barriers to employment.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field (e.g., Workforce Development, Social Services, Communication) or a minimum of one year’s experience in a similar role, preferably in a grant-funded program.
  • Experience with community outreach, career services, or workforce development preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred, not required.
  • Knowledge of: Career navigation and job placement strategies.
  • Knowledge of: Community engagement and public education techniques.
  • Knowledge of: Microsoft Office 365 and cloud-based project management tools.
  • Ability to: Interact with others in a culturally and emotionally sensitive manner.
  • Ability to: Organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to: Collaborate with partners, contractors, and community organizations.
  • Ability to: Analyze data and adjust outreach strategies accordingly.
  • Ability to: Take directions and work with supervisor to ensure priorities are correctly aligned and accomplished.

  • Ability to: Work a flexible schedule to accommodate attending scheduled works events and professional development opportunities, including weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to: Travel to locations throughout Lake County to events, work sites, and community meetings, including occasional evening and weekend events.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • For work-related driving, applicants must have a valid California driver’s license, a verifiable good driving record, and access to a vehicle with insurance that covers the employee as a driver OR reliable transportation with proof of automobile insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized career coaching, including goal setting, career pathway planning, and job readiness support.
  • Assist participants with resumes, job applications, interview preparation, and workplace expectations.
  • Support enrollment and completion of workforce training programs, including pre-apprenticeship and on-the-job training.
  • Facilitate or support workshops on professional development, workplace readiness, and financial self-sufficiency.
  • Conduct outreach and recruitment to enroll eligible participants and represent the program at community events and information sessions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers, contractors, and partners to identify job opportunities.
  • Match participants with appropriate employment opportunities and coordinate referrals, interviews, and hiring processes.
  • Support participants in securing and retaining employment through ongoing follow-up (up to 12 months).
  • Maintain communication with employers and address placement or retention concerns as needed.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with participants and support career advancement and skill development.
  • Identify and address employment barriers in coordination with Resource Navigators and support services.
  • Collaborate with Resource Navigators, Program Coordinators, and training staff to ensure coordinated participant support.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferencing, training, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain accurate participant records and data tracking in the program database (Empower).
  • Track outcomes, including training completion, employment placement, and retention milestones.
  • Collect required documentation such as employment verification, pay stubs, and follow-up records.
  • Support program reporting and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
