DreamYard is seeking a part-time Career Exploration and Readiness Teaching Artist for the 2021-2022 school year. This role is for a high school and college-aged work-based learning program and requires a passion for social justice and racial equity in art education. The ideal candidate will have prior experience teaching work-based readiness curriculum, preferably in NYC public schools. DreamYard, founded in 1994, is a Bronx-based organization that utilizes arts, social justice pedagogy, and digital learning to inspire youth, public schools, and communities. Their yearlong arts programs aim to develop artistic voices, foster a desire for change in young people, and cultivate skills for achieving positive goals. Through sustained learning opportunities across 45 partner public schools (K-12), their own DY Prep HS School, and the DreamYard Art Center, they support young people in pursuing higher learning, meaningful careers, and social action. DreamYard is committed to being an anti-racist organization, actively challenging oppression, using art and education for a hopeful future vision, uplifting community assets, promoting justice, unity, equity, creativity, and joy, and transforming policies and practices to ensure transparency and equity. The Teaching Artist will report to the Program Director and be supported by DreamYard Department Heads and Program Coordinators. Within the Work, Learn, and Grow Program, the Teaching Artist will lead 32 hours of Career and College exploration workshops focusing on creative career pathways. These workshops will involve a 2-hour session per week from October through Mid-December for two cohorts of high school students, examining relationships to work culture, evaluating strengths and growth areas, and honoring culture-based work narratives. A similar curriculum, with additional material, will be covered in 90-minute sessions with a cohort of college-aged students bi-weekly from October 2021 through May 2022.
