About The Position

The purpose of this role is to participate in the planning and delivery of career advising, coaching services, and programs that promote comprehensive career development opportunities for students in the Moody College of Communication. The coach will provide high quality, high-touch, and customer-service driven career advising, coaching, and education to students across all Moody College of Communication majors. Advising will occur in a hybrid environment (in person and online), individually and/or in small groups on all phases of career development, including resume reviews, mock interviews, career exploration, and internship and job search strategies. The role involves presenting career planning concepts to students through small and large group career preparation workshops and seminars, and delivering career content in curricular and co-curricular spaces. Collaboration with campus colleagues across the career ecosystem is essential to deliver high-quality experiences for Moody College students. The coach will connect students to career experience opportunities across Moody College’s employer ecosystem, including Texas Student Media. Full participation in all Moody College of Communication signature events and programs is expected, which include but are not limited to: Career Expo, Honors Day, Family Weekend, CommUnity and Gone To Texas, Graduation and Commencement events, and Freshman/Transfer Orientation. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, education, counseling or related field.
  • Four years of work experience in career services, higher education, or corporate recruiting; or related work experience in the creative professions.
  • Excellent resume writing, interviewing, and job search skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective rapport with students and colleagues.
  • Project management skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple activities at one time.
  • Demonstration of a strong passion to work with communications and creative students.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative team environment.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry experience is considered a plus.
  • Experience working with undergraduate communications students as a career coach or relevant experience working in a related industry role with coaching / mentoring responsibilities.
  • Experience working in a corporate environment and knowledge of corporate recruiting practices.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate communication or creative student career paths.

Benefits

  • Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
