About The Position

The Career Services team at Utah Tech University invites applications for a Career Coach position, specifically to work with students seeking careers within College of Business programs offered at Utah Tech University. This is a three-year, one-time funded position; contingent upon funding thereafter. Coaches students on career options within College of Business programs by assisting them in identifying strengths, interests, skills, majors, and employment resources, while incorporating a life design approach to help students create meaningful academic and career pathways. Recommends other services offered by Career Services, including internships, resume writing, department presentations, etc. Coordinates with other departments on campus for career opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required
  • Knowledge of career search strategies including career coaching, mentoring, social networking, interviewing, salary negotiations, etc.
  • Ability to take initiative and develop programs and curriculum for students and staff.
  • Ability to practice active listening skills and have a high level of awareness of the needs of others.
  • Extremely comfortable networking and presenting in front of groups.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Zoom.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students, employees and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters preferred
  • Experience with marketing, outreach, or event promotion strategies to increase student engagement is preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to counseling students and career exploration preferred.
  • Familiarity with career development tools such as Handshake and Hiration, and a willingness to explore and integrate emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) into career coaching practices.
  • Ability to adapt to the ever-changing world of career and professional development.
  • Familiarity with campus and student resources.

Responsibilities

  • Work with students in the College of Business on major-focused, in-depth career exploration, including connecting with professionals in their industry.
  • Plan and execute college-specific events such as Meet the Firms night, networking events, employer site visits, and lunch-and-learns in collaboration with faculty and industry partners.
  • Provide individualized and group career coaching for College of Business students, including career exploration, identifying strengths, interests, skills, and experiences, and supporting major selection and career direction.
  • Maintain a regular presence in the Hazy building to increase visibility, accessibility, and relationship-building with College of Business students, faculty, and staff.
  • Coach students on career readiness and job search strategies, including resume development, interviewing, networking, and navigating career pathways, while incorporating life design principles to help students build meaningful academic and career plans.
  • Leverage tools such as Handshake, Hiration, and emerging AI platforms to support students in developing career readiness materials and exploring career paths.
  • Serve as a member of the Career Services events committee, contributing to the planning, marketing, and logistics of signature events such as career fairs and boutique recruiting events.
  • Build and maintain employer relationships within College of Business industries in collaboration with the Employer Relations team to support strategic partnerships and student recruitment pipelines.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to support the development, expansion, and assessment of internship and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with faculty, employers, and academic departments to develop, expand, and support internship and experiential learning opportunities, serving as a liaison to facilitate communication, coordination, and follow-up with students.
  • Deliver engaging classroom presentations and workshops on career-related topics, tailored to specific majors or student populations in collaboration with faculty.
  • Participate in various committees on campus that further the goals of Career Services and/or Student Success.
  • Assist with tracking and data collection to monitor program effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
