About The Position

The Career Coach is a new position on the LBJ Career Management team within the LBJ School of Public Affairs’ Office of Student Affairs and Admissions. This position provides career development support for students by delivering individualized coaching, coordinating professional development programming, managing career communications, and supporting the operational functions of the Career Management team. Working collaboratively with students, alumni, employers, faculty, and campus partners, the Career Coach helps create career development opportunities and resources that support student success. The position plays an integral role in helping students explore career pathways, develop professional skills, connect with employers, and navigate internship and employment opportunities while contributing to the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of career services initiatives across the LBJ School.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, business, social work, public affairs, education, communications, or a related field.
  • One to three years of experience in career services, higher education, student affairs, recruiting, advising, event planning, marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience planning and coordinating events, workshops, or programs.
  • Able to create marketing and communication materials, including email campaigns, newsletters, social media, presentations, or promotional materials.
  • Experience using Canva or similar design software.
  • Strong organizational, project management, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a collaborative environment.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • More years of experience, including work in higher education, career services, recruiting, or student affairs, providing coaching, advising, mentoring, or training.
  • Previous experience with 12Twenty, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or similar technology platforms and website management, email marketing, or social media.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group career coaching for undergraduate students, with graduate student support as needed.
  • Advise students on career exploration, internship and job searches, networking, application materials, interviewing, salary negotiation, and career management.
  • Lead workshops, presentations, drop-in coaching, and related activities that support students in developing career plans and connecting with relevant opportunities.
  • Manage career services and professional development programs, including workshops, employer information sessions, networking events, career fairs, and student engagement initiatives.
  • Lead event logistics such as scheduling, room reservations, catering, speaker coordination, registration, materials, setup, day-of support, and follow-up.
  • Maintain the annual programming calendar and collaborate with internal and external partners to support effective event execution.
  • Develop and distribute student-facing communications that promote career services, professional development programs, internships, employment opportunities, employer events, and related initiatives.
  • Create and maintain newsletters, email communications, social media content, website updates, event promotions, and career resources to support timely and consistent outreach to students and alumni.
  • Support daily Career Services operations by maintaining resources, documenting procedures, tracking participation, and assisting with office initiatives.
  • Provide operational and logistical support for employer engagement, orientation programming, career fairs, and related departmental activities.
  • Deliver responsive service to students, alumni, employers, and campus partners.
  • Manage and maintain career services technology platforms, databases, and systems, including 12Twenty and other career management tools.
  • Ensure accurate records for event registration, student engagement, career resources, and employment information.
  • Assist with data entry, reporting, and system improvements that support efficient office operations.
