The City of West Hollywood is establishing a 24/7/365 mobile support service called the “West Hollywood Care Team” (Care Team). This team is designed to rapidly respond to community members experiencing behavioral health crises and other unmet social service needs within West Hollywood city limits. Care Team services are delivered in various community-based locations, including private homes, schools, and workplaces, serving residents (housed and unhoused), students, local workforce members, and visitors. The Care Team is integrated with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) network of Field Intervention Teams (FIT), which includes Mobile Crisis Outreach Teams (MCOT) and Psychiatric Mobile Response Teams (PMRT). The Cares Peer Support Specialist is a crucial member of this team, leveraging their lived experience as a recipient of mental health services, a parent of a youth who has received mental health services, experience with houselessness, and/or system involvement. This unique personal insight is utilized to benefit consumers, including adults, youth, children, their families, and the broader community. The specialist possesses expertise in the recovery process, symptom management, and supporting consumers in leading satisfying lives. Key responsibilities include providing stabilization interventions, advocating for client voice, choice, self-determination, and decision-making in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services. Additionally, the Cares Peer Support Specialist provides consultation to consumers on community resources, crisis intervention, and available services such as housing, mental health, medical treatment, and substance abuse services.
