About The Position

Beacon is a national behavioral health company providing residential-based services and supports to children and adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Severe Mental Illness, Autism, and high-acuity behaviors. This role requires adherence to company policies, accreditation standards, state and federal licensing requirements, HCBS guidelines, and contractual requirements. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be approved by state, federal, and government entities to work within BSLS programs.
  • Required to maintain industry-required trainings and TB screenings (for select markets).
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must successfully submit to and meet the requirements of the Central Registry, CARI (Child Abuse Registry), Criminal Background check and drug testing (New Jersey requirement only).
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and assess problems, develop solutions, and problem-solve successfully.
  • Demonstrates all core competencies related IDD services and individuals with mental health concerns.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to complete required training in connection with accrediting agencies, state and local regulatory agencies, and other government bodies.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to use office equipment and information technology software.
  • Ability to physically and emotionally work with individuals who possess mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
  • Ability to work in an environment with the potential for exposure to physical aggression from individuals served.
  • Ability to work in an environment with the potential exposure to infectious disease.
  • Beacon Specialized Living Services (BSLS) uses a variety of information technology information systems including Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive; HRIS systems, Attendance and Time Clock systems, Electronic Health Record and Electronic Medication Administration Record keeping systems, Clarity, and others. HM will be responsible for learning and becoming proficient with these IT systems and others that BSLS may deploy or change in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 2 years of college coursework in business, social science, or a related human service discipline strongly preferred.
  • 2-3 years’ previous leadership experience working in a healthcare or behavioral healthcare related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years’ previous management or supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all company and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Operate assigned home(s) to meet or exceed company goals, including budgets and clinical effectiveness.
  • Support and supervise Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), ensuring they have the necessary training and skills for high-quality care.
  • Maintain assigned home(s) and ensure all related systems, facilities, and furnishings are in good working order.
  • Assign repairs and maintenance duties to staff when possible, and contact the maintenance department or direct supervisor for facility issues.
  • Assist direct supervisor with contracting for approved services and evaluate contractor performance.
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned home(s) and vehicle(s) by developing daily duties for employees.
  • Communicate daily with direct supervisor.
  • Manage on-call responsibilities and report on-call hours as needed.
  • Review and send important topics for monthly home meetings to direct supervisor.
  • Prepare meeting rooms and schedule staff for meetings.
  • Build positive relationships with referral sources, government, and licensing agencies, and assist in coordinating admissions.
  • Collaborate with Beacon leadership and functional areas to improve operations, compliance, residential care, and employee performance.
  • Maintain professional conduct and ensure the same from home staff while on duty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Contact direct supervisor if a representative from a regulatory agency, adult protective services, an investigating body, or police arrives at the home, and cooperate with investigations.
  • Complete incident reports in the company electronic system timely and send a copy to direct supervisor for approval.
  • Ensure all incident report actions, corrective action plans (CAP), and/or plans of correction (POC) are implemented accurately and timely.
  • Assist direct supervisor with annual documentation updates for individuals served and inform supervisor of status changes requiring protocol or documentation updates.
  • Ensure compliance with employee training and certifications to meet licensing standards, recipient rights, and accrediting bodies.
  • Communicate with state and local regulators openly and as a respected partner.
  • Collaborate with direct supervisor, referrals, and regional team to manage census, including Leaves of Absence (LOAs), to meet or exceed budgeted revenue targets.
  • Provide direct supervisor with all logs and documentation supporting care provided.
  • Manage assigned home(s) payroll costs through effective recruitment, hiring, staff retention, good staff scheduling practices, and monitoring/correcting trends impacting costs.
  • Manage the home budget, petty cash fund, and individual funds according to company policies.
  • Ensure all financial reporting (payroll, petty cash, individual funds, billing, etc.) is timely and accurate.
  • Ensure time-and-attendance and payroll reporting is accurate.
  • Keep direct supervisor informed of current and future staffing changes or shortages.
  • Monitor and maintain employee scheduling and time worked to annual budget.
  • Ensure open shifts are staffed and find replacement staff as required.
  • Oversee all residential care functions at assigned house or program, collaborating with direct supervisor, HR, Training, and Recruiting for interviews, evaluations, separations, and training.
  • Inform direct supervisor of personnel issues requiring monitoring, counseling, or feedback, and complete COS once disciplinary action is determined.
  • Conduct on-site training for DSPs and develop supportive teams.
  • Notify employees of scheduled classes, including date, time, and location.
  • Establish goals and provide feedback to DSPs on annual performance reviews.
  • Ensure all new employees are welcomed, receive orientation, and are integrated into the team.
  • Provide monthly check-in discussions with direct reports.
  • Collaborate with direct supervisor and clinical team to ensure proper clinical actions for individuals' health, safety, and stability.
  • Collaborate with direct supervisor and clinical team in overseeing individuals' activities and programs, identifying improvements for social, emotional, mental, and physical needs, and increasing home involvement and independent living skills.
  • Communicate regularly with all internal and external clinical, medical, and regulatory agencies.
  • Attend and ensure DSPs attend individuals' functions and maintain regular individual interaction per person-centered plans.
  • Ensure DSPs regularly assist individuals in skill-building and community activities.
  • Work with direct supervisor in reviewing each individual's status and ability to perform under contract terms.
  • Apply trauma-informed care principles, recognizing trauma symptoms and their role in an individual's life.
  • Promote trauma-informed care at all organizational levels and foster a culture sensitive to individuals' feelings.
  • Oversee all administrative, clerical record-keeping, clinical record-keeping, medication administration, transportation, and coordination of care duties at assigned home site(s).
  • Complete/conduct Fire and Emergency drills as required.
  • Submit accurate daily entries in the electronic health records (EHR).
  • Routinely monitor physician-directed meal plans, kitchen sanitation, meal quality, service quality, cleanliness of space, and individual satisfaction.
  • Ensure tasks on the daily reminder list are completed timely and inform direct supervisor of any deficiencies.
  • Keep direct supervisor and HR informed timely of work injuries within 24 hours.
  • Conduct random home and vehicle inspections and correct any violations of company policy.
  • Conduct random individual(s) audit reviews and communicate findings to direct supervisor, and clinical and operations leadership.
  • Maintain confidential (HIPAA compliant) information for individuals served, prospective individuals, and employees.
  • Monitor and ensure positive individual, family, community, regulatory agency, and employee relations by responding promptly and appropriately to their needs, requests, concerns, and suggestions.
  • Preserve and protect the privacy, confidentiality, and security of all medical records and confidential information.
  • Promote Beacon positively and model core values in everyday behavior.
  • Understand how to approach and communicate with all individuals, including those who are cognitively impaired.
  • Treat individuals, family members, and team members with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain and sustain a safe community environment and workplace.
  • Cooperate with Beacon Specialized Living, DHS staff, or any other regulatory body during inspections, investigations, or inquiries.
