About The Position

This position is responsible for the husbandry of birds and egg production. The employee will ensure birds have adequate temperature, lighting, feed, water, and a clean environment. The role involves operating poultry houses, maintaining equipment, and adhering to safety and quality standards.

Requirements

No prior experience or training required.
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers.
Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Ability to add and subtract digit numbers.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral form.
Ability to deal with problems involving one concrete variable in standardized situations.
Free of any breathing or asthmatic conditions, as dusty and aromatic conditions prevail.
Must be able to pass pulmonary functions test and be fit tested.
Ability to lift 20 lbs. in each hand and carry it for at least 250 feet.
Ability to be in various positions, including bending, kneeling, crawling, and climbing.
Must have the full use of all limbs.
Must have basic math skills.
Must be able to work individually or with a team with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
Must be able to pass and follow Lock Out Tag Out Trained and Respiratory Trained procedures.

Responsibilities

Operates 1-2 poultry houses.
Ensures chickens have adequate water, feed, and proper temperatures.
Disinfects poultry houses.
Maintains and operates medication pumps.
Installs poultry house breast guard clips.
Keeps layer houses clean.
Assists with maintenance as needed.
Keeps daily charts on water, temperatures, and maintenance under UEP Guidelines and Animal Care.
Works closely with supervisor and maintenance.
Weighs birds and collects case weights weekly.
Ensures feed chains and egg belts are working at all times.
Ensures egg savers are working at all times.
Keeps egg collectors clean and adjusted.
Keeps egg roll-offs clean and adjusted.
Replaces burned out light bulbs.
Keeps catwalks clean.
Ensures birds are within permitted space (off the floor).
Keeps fans, screens, and motors clean and protected with shields.
Removes and counts dead chickens daily.
Monitors mortality and reports increases promptly to supervisor or lead.
Monitors egg loss.
Maintains and replaces water regulators, egg rollers, sprockets, feed chains, and header shear pins as needed.
Performs maintenance work immediately and contacts supervisor for major problems.
Keeps the floor under units clean.
Reports anything out of the ordinary to maintenance or supervisor.
Adheres to safe work practices, maintains sanitary conditions, and ensures product quality.
Reports any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety to management.
Travels to and works at multiple locations.
Adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
