About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a dedicated Care Partner to join their team on the VAD & Heart Transplant unit. This role involves assisting with patient care and maintaining unit standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The unit is a fast-paced, collaborative, high-acuity area specializing in advanced heart interventions, caring for adult patients requiring ventricular assist devices (VADs), pre- and post-heart transplants, pre- and post-coronary artery bypass and valve surgeries, advanced heart failure treatments, and pre- and post-procedures. The unit also manages patients with chest pain, arrhythmia, and myocardial infarctions, and performs procedures such as cardiac catheterization, radiofrequency ablation, cardioversions, percutaneous coronary intervention, and implantation of pacemakers or automatic cardiac defibrillators. This is the only unit outside of VUMC’s Cardiovascular ICU trained to care for VAD patients and the only VUMC stepdown unit trained to perform peritoneal dialysis. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience)
  • AND one of the following:
  • Current enrollment in a professional nursing RN program with successful completion of the first semester (including nursing fundamentals clinical)
  • OR Graduation from a Nursing Assistant or Aide Training Program within the past year (certificate of completion required)
  • OR Minimum of one year of recent experience (within the past two years) as a care partner, nursing assistant, or patient care technician.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Assists with day-to-day delivery of patient care.
  • Facilitates efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
  • Serves as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
  • Supports unit operations and patient flow by maintaining supplies, equipment, and unit environmental standards.
