About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is a leading institution in Nashville, Tennessee, dedicated to advancing health and wellness through patient care, education, and research. This role is within the 14 MCJCHV Cohort 20, caring for adult patients aged 18 and older with diverse medical diagnoses including pulmonary, renal, hepatology, endocrine, and post-procedural conditions. Some patients may require knowledge of home vents, wound care, and continuous medication drips, such as insulin. The position is full-time, working a night shift from 6:45 pm to 7:15 am, with three 12-hour shifts per week. Schedules are determined by unit staffing needs and are not set. All employees, including night shift and PRN, must attend hospital orientation during regular daytime hours in their first week of employment.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience)
AND one of the following:
Current enrollment in a professional nursing RN program with successful completion of the first semester (including nursing fundamentals clinical)
OR Graduation from a Nursing Assistant or Aide Training Program within the past year (certificate of completion required)
OR Minimum of one year of recent experience (within the past two years) as a care partner, nursing assistant, or patient care technician.

Responsibilities

Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
Assists with day-to-day delivery of patient care.
Facilitates efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
Serves as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
Supports unit operations and patient flow by maintaining supplies, equipment, and unit environmental standards.
Demonstrates competence with interventions (such as point of care testing, vital signs, etc.) in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
Independently works with clinical applications for patient documentation.
Demonstrates ability to set up and maintain patient rooms, supplies, and equipment.
