About The Position

The Immigrant Education Society (TIES) is seeking a part-time Care for Newcomer Children (CNC) Educator to provide professional care for Newcomer Children under the guidance of lead CNC educators. This role involves daily routine tasks, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment, monitoring children's behavior, assisting with activity planning, maintaining hygiene, documenting incidents, and potentially traveling between locations. The position is 14 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, from 8:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Requirements

  • Minimum Level 1/childcare assistant certificate
  • At least 1 year of childcare working experience
  • Valid first-aid certificate
  • Clear police check with vulnerable sector check within 6 months prior to employment
  • Valid food safety certificate
  • Valid Tetanus and Diphtheria Vaccination
  • Valid clear Tuberculosis test result
  • Must complete a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and a Child Intervention Record Check.

Responsibilities

  • Be familiar with and follow relevant licensing regulations, policies, and TIES Care for Newcomer Children (CNC) Program administrative manual.
  • Complete daily routine tasks including setting up the rooms appropriately and safely for children.
  • Build rapport with parents and provide assistance, following proper protocols for signing in and out all children.
  • Check children for injuries and illness upon arrival.
  • Record children’s daily attendance, activities, and health status.
  • Provide a healthy snack.
  • Perform other housekeeping tasks.
  • Inspect and maintain cleanliness of toys and equipment.
  • Report noticeable hazard materials and equipment to the supervisor immediately.
  • Monitor the children’s behavior and intervene as needed.
  • Assist the LINC Lead CNC Educator in planning activities for the program which respect and reflect diverse values and traditions of the enrolled children.
  • Maintain proper hygiene of all children.
  • Be aware of signs or symptoms of abuse and contagious illnesses.
  • Document and submit incident reports to the supervisor.
  • Communicate with the parents when applicable.
  • Be willing to travel between two locations and relocate to another location for the needs of program operations should it arise.
