About The Position

OP Specialty Bracing is growing and is looking for a motivated, caring individual to join their team as a Care Extender. This role is crucial in improving the lives of children with orthopedic conditions and supporting their families. The company specializes in pediatric orthotics and prosthetics, offering specialized clinics nationwide. The Care Extender will blend patient care with the design and fabrication of devices, working in partnership with other healthcare professionals. The primary function is to increase and improve mobility in patients with physical limitations and treat orthopedic conditions using mechanical devices. The Care Extender will assist in building and providing orthotic and prosthetic devices under the supervision of a Certified Orthotist and/or Certified Prosthetist. This role requires the ability to shift gears quickly, assist in all aspects of patient care, including evaluations, treatment plan implementation, device adjustments, and fitting of Off-the-Shelf devices. Working in a team environment and making decisions after proper training is essential. The ideal candidate cares about providing high-quality patient care, is a part of a life-changing industry, possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills, can multi-task and re-prioritize, has keen attention to detail, is self-motivated, and operates with a high level of discretion.

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Degree required
  • Anatomy & Physiology Course (to be completed during training)
  • Medical Terminology Course (to be completed during training)
  • Physics Course (to be completed during training)
  • 1900 training hours (for Certified Orthotic Assistant)
  • Completion of an American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics, Inc. (ABC) approved orthotic fitter pre-certification education course
  • Completion of 1,000 hours of orthotic fitting patient care experience obtained either before or after completion of the education course

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of some collegiate coursework preferred
  • Related technical experience and/or training in hands-on/mechanically oriented field, preferred
  • Experience in patient care and/or rehabilitation, preferred
  • Already COA certified highly preferred
  • Already CFO certified highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assistance in the guided evaluation of orthoses on patients to ensure fit, function, and quality
  • Fitting, repairing and maintaining orthoses under guidance of and in consultation with the Orthotist
  • Make assigned casts, obtain measurements, model modifications, and scanning
  • Use of machinery for trimming, grinding, buffing of orthotic devices
  • Scribing of notes using Athena Patient software
  • Performing other duties as needed based on clinic setting
  • Performs all other duties as required.
