About The Position

Chimo Youth Retreat Centre is seeking caring individuals to fill part-time and full-time Care Worker positions in their Group Care Home for youth. As a Care Worker, you will be part of a team providing support, education, and nurturing in a 24/7 safe, home environment to help youth develop essential life skills. The role involves mentoring youth from diverse backgrounds, guiding them through challenges, and fostering a sense of safety and value. This is a hands-on role that requires active participation in various aspects of the youth's lives and the upkeep of the facility.

Requirements

  • Level 1: Diploma, actively working on post-secondary degree, and/or relevant life/job experiences.
  • Level 2: Degree in human services.
  • Class 5 Driver's License.
  • 3 years claims free auto insurance history.
  • Warm and caring individuals capable of forming strong, supportive relationships with youth.
  • Post-secondary education, preferably in Child and Youth Care or Social Work.
  • Standard employee workplace skills including good communication and decent writing skills.
  • Punctuality in starting shifts on time.
  • Ability to use technology in the workplace.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and professionalism.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care, strength-based approaches, Indigenous worldviews, child and youth development, child-parent attachment, and therapeutic milieu of group care.
  • Clear and current Criminal Records Check (within 6 months).
  • Clear and current Children Services Intervention Record Check.
  • Clean Drivers’ Abstract.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses minimum).
  • ISQA Assessment if degree is from an international institute.

  • Level 1 or 2 candidates with drive.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support, education, and nurturing to youth in a 24/7 caring, safe, home environment.
  • Help youth develop the skills they need to thrive.
  • Guide youth through challenges and help them feel safe and valued.
  • Work in a team environment to make lasting differences in the lives of youth.
  • Work shift work, including indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
  • Climb stairs in the group home.
  • Complete household management tasks such as cleaning, meal prep, cooking, and grocery shopping.
  • Perform yard work including mowing lawns, planting gardens, raking leaves, and shoveling snow.
  • Physically interact with youth during recreation outings, etc.
  • Lift up to 50lbs.
