Care Assistant to CNA Pathway
About The Position
This position is for a Care Assistant who is interested in pursuing a path towards Nurse Aide Certification. The role involves providing nursing care and services to residents, including personal care, restorative care, and assistance with daily living activities. The journey begins as a Care Assistant performing supplemental duties to support Certified Nurse Aide staff. After 30 days of employment, Care Assistants will enroll in a state-approved Certified Nurse Aide Training Program. Upon completion of the training program, the Care Assistant will be promoted to Nurse Aide for up to 120 days, during which they will provide nursing care and prepare for the Prometric exam. After passing the exam, the Nurse Aide will be promoted to Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), responsible for orienting residents to the unit and facility, responding to resident calls and alarms immediately, and addressing family requests.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum age of 18
- Completion of Hawaii Nurse Aide Training Program.
- Scheduled Prometric exam within 120 days of hire.
- Current and valid 2 Step TB clearance (can be done in-house).
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care and services to residents, including personal and restorative care and activities of daily living.
- Assist staff with non-direct care and perform supplemental duties to provide additional resources to Certified Nurse Aide staff.
- Enroll in a state-approved Certified Nurse Aide Training Program after 30 days of employment.
- Provide nursing care and services to residents after completion of the Certified Nurse Aide Training Program (as a Nurse Aide for up to 120 days).
- Take the final Prometric exam within 120 days of hire.
- Orient residents to the unit and facility, including call systems, shower schedules, bathrooms, and common areas.
- Introduce new residents to the community.
- Inform residents of meal schedules, snack times, and the activity calendar.
- Respond to resident calls, bells, lights, and alarms immediately.
- Respond to family requests and inform the Charge Nurse when required.
