The Cardiovascular Technologist directly assists the physician during invasive cardiovascular, electrophysiology, and/or peripheral vascular procedures, ensuring appropriate sterile technique. This role requires proficiency in a wide range of diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures, including right and left heart catheterizations, pacemaker/ICD insertions, coronary interventions (such as balloon pump, Impella, PTCA's, Atherectomy, stent, IVUS, pressure wires), myocardial biopsies, peripheral angioplasty, endovascular Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, OR/Cath lab combo cases in the Hybrid Suite, and pericardiocentesis. The technologist also serves as a second circulator and documenter, responsible for achieving hemostasis and effectively evaluating and reducing hematomas. As an integral member of the Cath Lab Team, the technologist contributes to a safe and efficient environment, operates and maintains radiologic equipment, and prepares patients for invasive procedures. Additional duties include assisting with pre and post-procedure patient care, maintaining accurate documentation, acting as a patient advocate, and judiciously utilizing resources to promote the physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of patients.
