Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) license or Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
  • Current Colorado Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification
  • Current Colorado Fluroscopy Certification
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe
  • Proficient in scrubbing diagnostic and interventional cardiac, peripheral vascular, and electrophysiology procedures
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology
  • Familiarity with cath lab equipment, instruments, and radiation safety
  • Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Physical stamina and manual dexterity to handle equipment and assist patients
  • Commitment to continuing education and staying current with advancements in the field

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited Cardiovascular Technologist Program or Surgical Technologist Program
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a catheterization lab or operating room

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the catheterization laboratory and ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available and in working order.
  • Assist with the sterilization and set-up of sterile fields.
  • Scrub in to assist physicians during procedures by passing instruments, manipulating catheters, and helping with device implantation.
  • Maintain aseptic technique to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
  • Monitor and maintain the inventory of cath lab supplies, restocking as necessary.
  • Operate fluoroscopy and other imaging equipment under the direction of the physician.
  • Ensure proper disposal of sharps and other hazardous materials following procedures.
  • Record and document procedural details, patient responses, and the outcome of the procedure in the patient’s medical record.
  • Collaborate with the cath lab team to implement protocols and quality control measures.
  • Provide patient care before, during, and after procedures, including positioning the patient and monitoring vital signs.
  • Participate in emergency response situations by providing critical assistance as needed.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new staff and students within the cath lab environment.
  • Engage in continuous education to stay current with evolving techniques, equipment, and best practices in the field of cardiac care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
