About The Position

This is a Cardiovascular Tech position in the Cardiac Cath Lab that will support cardiology procedures at both Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital and Naperville Freedom Drive Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The role involves providing professional, highly technical nursing care to all cardiovascular patients, assisting physicians during cardiovascular procedures, and functioning as a liaison for patients, their families, and physicians. The technician will also assist physicians in the operation of technical equipment used during procedures.

Requirements

  • Typically requires 2 years cardiac cath lab experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in PTCA, EPS preferred
  • AAS in RTR, or RTN license
  • Minimum of 12 CEU hours per year
  • Recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to anticipate patient and unit needs
  • Ability to teach procedures to the staff
  • Current License in the state of IL as a RTR, RTN, RCVT, or Paramedic (EMT~P)
  • ACLS, IABP
  • RCIS within two years of employment
  • Ability to function in a high stress environment
  • Ability to lift and move heavy patients and equipment
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, wearing lead apron (approx. 18 lbs.)
  • Ability to respond to off hour call-ins within thirty minutes of the pager going off
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years experience as RTR or RTN experience preferred
  • Prior experience with various age groups is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain complete documentation of cardiovascular procedures
  • Participate in in-services, continuing education, and workshops to remain abreast of new procedures and current technologies
  • Accountable for the maintenance of quality control in all areas of the lab
  • Provide a secure and safe environment for patients and staff maintaining constant awareness of safety hazards
  • Assistance with new staff orientation within the department
  • Act as a role model within the department serving as a resource person for all clinical activities
  • Assisting in the development of new operating procedures
