About The Position

The University of Florida, College of Medicine, Department of Surgery is seeking an open-rank faculty member on a tenure or non-tenure track to serve as an intensivist in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit in the New Heart and Vascular Surgery Tower. The primary clinical mission is providing critical care for cardiac surgery patients. UF Health is a major referral center for complex cardiac surgery in the Southeast, including aneurysms, dissections, minimally invasive procedures, and transcatheter valves. The role joins a multidisciplinary surgical and critical care team supported by mid-level providers and residents through the Hospital Critical Care Organization. Rotations in the Thoracic and Vascular Units may be available on a rotational basis with colleagues. Participation in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) patient cannulation and coverage is optional. Surgical or operative time, research opportunities, and educational focus are negotiable.

Educational responsibilities include teaching medical students and residents rotating on the service, assisting with the level-specific didactic curriculum for surgical residents, and teaching medical students in third-year rotation small-group sessions. The faculty member will also participate in training Surgical Critical Care, Acute Care Surgery, and TCV fellows, as well as Critical Care fellows rotating through the ICU(s). Research opportunities may be available in clinical, translational, or basic science research through the University of Florida Sepsis and Critical Illness Research Center and other University Department of Surgery laboratories.

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with education and experience. Applicants should attach a curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation. The final candidate must provide an official transcript to the hiring department upon hire. Degrees earned outside the United States must be evaluated by a professional credentialing service provider approved by NACES. A health assessment is required.

Requirements

• MD degree or equivalent.
• Board certification or eligibility in general surgery.
• Completion of a critical care fellowship.
• Board certification or eligibility in surgical critical care.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Evidence of collaborative work.

Responsibilities

• Provide critical care for cardiac surgery patients in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.
• Participate in rotations in the Thoracic and Vascular Units on a rotational basis with colleagues, as applicable.
• Optionally participate in ECMO patient cannulation and coverage.
• Teach medical students and residents rotating on the service.
• Assist with teaching surgical residents through the level-specific didactic curriculum.
• Teach medical students through third-year rotation small-group sessions.
• Participate in training Surgical Critical Care, Acute Care Surgery, TCV, and Critical Care fellows rotating through the ICU(s).
• Research participation may include clinical, translational, or basic science research.
