Emory Healthcare is seeking a Cardiovascular Operating Room Surgical Technologist to implement and evaluate care for patients undergoing diagnostic and invasive surgical procedures. This role serves as a clinical resource, analyzing and anticipating less predictable outcomes of surgical interventions. The individual will be an expert in two or more complex specialty areas, with the ability to float to other complex specialty areas. Complex specialty areas include CVOR, Complex Neuro Procedures (aneurysm, craniotomy), Large Organ Transplant, Surg Onc (Head & Neck, Skull Based, HIPEC), and Reconstructive Surgery (e.g. TRAM Flaps). The position involves leading service area based committees, identifying cost containment activities, monitoring and maintaining supplies, and ensuring par levels. The technologist will identify complex patient needs, prioritize and participate in procedure processes, and document all aspects of care. They will also establish and meet goals in clinical practice, management, education, and/or research, maintain active membership in professional organizations, and function as a resource for complex interdisciplinary needs. Additionally, the role involves assisting in identifying staff and patient education needs, serving as a clinical resource for new employees and inservices, assisting with department orientation, and serving as a role model or mentor. The technologist will comply with established policies and procedures, provide input in developing and revising policies, and complete hospital and department based orientation programs. They will attend and lead educational programs, assist in identifying ways to modify patient and procedure outcomes through research and/or quality monitoring, and review/revise surgical preference cards. Participation in unit-based and hospital-wide performance improvement programs, and assistance with research activities are also key responsibilities. The technologist will prepare the operating room for surgery, assemble supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment, and set up and operate specialized instrumentation. They will follow procedures for accounting of sharps, sponges, and instruments.
