About The Position

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is hiring a Cardiovascular Invasive Technologist for a full-time, day shift position in Woodbridge, VA. The schedule is 5 eight-hour days. On-call requirement is a minimum of 8 shifts per month, including at least 1 weekend, and must be within 30 minutes of the facility. A sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 is available for qualified candidates. The Cath Lab at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is a 50-person team consisting of monitor techs, cardiovascular invasive techs, registered nurses, and patient care staff. The team performs an average of 10 procedures per day, with a mix of inpatient and outpatient cases. Heart and Vascular has 3 labs for EP, Cardiac, and IR at SNVMC. The Cardiovascular Invasive Technologist, also known as a Cath Lab Technologist, is a healthcare professional who assists physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures. This role requires close collaboration with patients, physicians, and other healthcare team members to deliver high-quality care and ensure procedural safety and accuracy. The technologist utilizes specialized equipment under the direction of a qualified physician to perform cardiac and vascular procedures, aiding in the accurate diagnosis and/or optimal treatment of heart disease while prioritizing patient safety and comfort. Key duties include performing/reviewing baseline patient assessments, evaluating patient response to procedures, providing patient care as directed, and acting as a first assistant during diagnostic and therapeutic catheterizations.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a diploma, associate's, or bachelor's health sciences program (includes, but is not limited to cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy or nursing) or a licensed/certified EMT or paramedic.
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent required.
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS required within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade School graduate preferred.
  • American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) preferred.
  • Cardiovascular Invasive Technologist or working in an invasive cardiac environment 1 year preferred.
  • Medication administration experience preferred.
  • Specialty procedures experience preferred.
  • EP and Cardiac Cath Experience preferred.
  • Sterile procedure experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the performance of cardiac and vascular procedures through the utilization of specialized equipment and under the direction of a qualified physician.
  • Performs/reviews a baseline patient assessment.
  • Evaluates patient response to diagnostic or interventional maneuvers during cardiac catheterization laboratory procedures.
  • Provides patient care commonly used in the cardiac catheterization laboratory as requested and under the direction of a qualified physician.
  • Acts as a first assistant during diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization.
