About The Position

Locum tenens Nurse Practitioner providing cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery coverage at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. The role covers inpatient and operating room services, including clinical duties and call coverage, while the facility recruits for an additional full-time equivalent position. Coverage begins November 12, 2026, and continues on specified dates, with additional dates to be determined. The average daily volume is 1–2 surgeries, with a case mix including CABG, AVR, MVR, and thoracotomy/lung resection. The facility uses Epic. Hospital privileges are required at Saint Joseph Hospital, and credentialing takes approximately 90–110 days.

Requirements

• Board certification is required.
• Active Kentucky license or willingness to obtain one.
• Active DEA certification is required.
• ACLS certification.
• BLS certification.
• DEA certification.
• Must be credentialed at Saint Joseph Hospital to obtain required hospital privileges.

Nice To Haves

• Clean malpractice history preferred.
• Availability at time of name clear.

Responsibilities

• First-assist in cardiothoracic surgeries, including CABG, AVR, MVR, and thoracotomy/lung resections.
• Perform vein harvest and chest tube placement.
• Manage telemetry and ICU patients.
• Take night call from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and weekend 24-hour call duties.
• Conduct inpatient rounds and surgical procedures during weekend coverage.
