About The Position

Centra Medical Group is seeking a certified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join its Cardiothoracic Surgery team in Lynchburg, Virginia. The service performs coronary artery bypass graft, maze, aortic repair, and valve replacement procedures. The role provides a full range of care to a varied patient panel in a team setting, with hands-on training from the whole team. The health system has a fully implemented EMR and nearby admitting hospitals.

The position has a heavy inpatient focus and includes a half-day of outpatient work each week, operating-room blocks, and rounding on patients. The schedule is generally five days per week, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. most days. Night call and weekend and holiday rotations are shared among the team, typically at a 1:3 to 1:4 ratio. The team consists of two surgeons and three APPs.

Requirements

• National certification as a Physician Assistant; the posting also invites Nurse Practitioners.
• Virginia licensure, or willingness to obtain it.
• Active DEA registration.
• Cardiothoracic surgery experience is required.
• Team-oriented approach and a strong desire to make a difference in the community.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for cardiothoracic surgery patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Participate in the team’s operating-room blocks.
• Round on patients.
• Participate in night call at a 1:3 to 1:4 rotation.
• Participate in weekend and holiday coverage at a 1:3 to 1:4 rotation.
