About The Position

Provides perioperative patient care during the intraoperative phase, working in both scrub and circulating roles according to established guidelines. Serves patients from neonate through geriatric populations. The position requires call and scheduled weekend, night, and holiday work.

Requirements

Possess a current or compact-state Registered Nurse license issued or defined by the State of Iowa.
Obtain Basic Life Support certification within six weeks of hire; an accepted credential is American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Provide proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three months of hire.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Operating Room experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Scrub and circulate independently on surgical cases, with minimal direction.
Prepare efficiently for surgical cases and anticipate the needs of the patient, surgeon, anesthesia, and other operating-room team members.
Promote a safe environment for patients and staff by applying aseptic technique standards and managing the physical and psychological aspects of the environment.
Collect and analyze data and assess patients to develop nursing diagnoses.
Communicate effectively with patients, staff, physicians, and families.
Maintain knowledge of equipment setup and function.
Initiate and direct room cleanup and turnover.
Participate in orientation and training of new personnel.
Assist in maintaining physician preference cards and other operating-room resource materials.
Use a computer for surgical documentation, specimen disposition, and obtaining pertinent information.
Participate in departmental Performance Improvement activities as appropriate.
Attend department meetings and in-services.
