About The Position

The Children’s Heart Centre within the Division of Pediatric Cardiology, Department of Pediatrics, University of British Columbia, conducts research focusing on improving outcomes of pediatric patients with congenital and acquired heart conditions. The Cardiology Research Assistant will work on cardiac research studies and other research related tasks to support the Division's initiatives under the guidance and direction of the electrophysiology and cardiology research managers. The role will involve collection of sensitive information requiring attention to detail and accuracy to help ensure the integrity of the data gathered.

Requirements

  • High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant undergraduate degree with a strong background in science and an interest in the health sciences.
  • Experience working in a research environment/or an understanding of the ethical concepts in research.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Familiarity using search engines such as PubMed, Medline, Ovid
  • Demonstrated computer literacy (MS Word, Power Point, Excel, and PowerPoint,) including EndNote
  • Superior organizational, multi-tasking, and ability to follow directions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to act professional and display excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Interacting with patients and families to discuss and obtain consent for participation in research projects
  • Collect and enter patient data into online data collection forms according to established protocols
  • Perform basic literature searches, retrieve scientific journal articles; prepare and maintain an Endnote reference library
  • Prepare recruitment packages for various projects according to established protocols
  • Update and maintain logs for study ethics approvals, screening/enrolment, and specimen collection
  • Maintain study records for retention and storage i.e. scanning, printing and filing
  • Perform other administrative/clerical duties as required.
