The Cardiology/Radiology Specialist educates patients and staff appropriately in reference to radiology issues among other assigned tasks. This role involves identifying and solving problems related to radiology equipment, patient care, and radiation safety. The specialist is responsible for maintaining sterile technique for all cath lab procedures, adhering to evidence-based policies, and producing quality radiographs. Competency in technology, computer use, archive unit operation, image management, study measurements, and quality control is essential. The role also includes performing patient assessments for positioning, participating in multidisciplinary patient care, and assisting with all cath lab procedures and equipment operation. Interpretation and implementation of physician orders regarding positioning and x-ray views, as well as performing unit-specific procedures in x-ray and scrub positions, are key duties. The specialist must be knowledgeable about and participate in the unit's PI plan, utilize unit-specific equipment appropriately, and follow all hospital/department safety and infection control policies, including radiation safety policies.
