About The Position

The Cardiology/Radiology Specialist educates patients and staff appropriately in reference to radiology issues among other assigned tasks. This role reports directly to the Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse. The specialist is responsible for identifying and solving problems related to radiology equipment, patient care, or radiation safety, and consistently communicating abnormal variances. Competency in sterile technique for all cath lab procedures is essential, along with demonstrating best practices such as Huddles, procedure reporting, Service Excellence principles, and the use of sterile technique. The role involves following evidence-based policies and procedures to guide radiology practice, consistently producing quality radiographs, and possessing competency in the use of technology and computers, including archive units, image management, study measurements, and quality control. The specialist performs patient assessments for positioning to obtain quality studies and consistently participates in the multidisciplinary approach to patient care. They competently perform/assist with all cath lab procedures and demonstrate competency in the operation of all cath lab equipment. Interpretation and implementation of physician orders regarding positioning and x-ray views are key, as is performing unit-specific procedures in x-ray and scrub positions. Knowledge of and active participation in the Unit PI plan, along with appropriate utilization of unit-specific equipment, are required. The role also necessitates adherence to established hospital/department safety policies, understanding and responding to cultural variables in interactions, and following hospital/department infection control and radiation safety policies, including annual Radiation Safety inservice.

Requirements

  • Graduate of School of Radiology Technology required
  • Current Louisiana Radiology license and ARRT registered required
  • BLS-CPR certified required
  • ACLS certified required
