Requirements

  • Master's or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current Nurse Practitioner license with prescriptive authority
  • National Board Certification (AANP or ANCC)
  • Current DEA registration (if applicable)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of cardiology, hospital medicine, or critical care experience
  • Experience in general and/or interventional cardiology
  • Familiarity with cardiac catheterization, PCI, structural heart procedures and peripheral vascular interventions
  • Experience managing patients in both inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular settings
  • Strong cardiovascular assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to interpret ECGs, echocardiograms, laboratory results, and other cardiac diagnostic studies
  • Excellent clinical judgment and critical thinking abilities
  • Strong communication and patient education skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily inpatient cardiology coverage and rounding.
  • Evaluate new cardiology consultations and follow hospitalized cardiovascular patients.
  • Perform comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, including history and physical examinations.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies including ECGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, laboratory studies, and cardiac imaging.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with supervising cardiologists.
  • Coordinate discharge planning, medication reconciliation, and transition of care.
  • Evaluate and manage new and established cardiology patients.
  • Provide ongoing management of cardiovascular diseases including coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and valvular heart disease.
  • Prescribe and adjust medications within scope of practice.
  • Educate patients on disease management, medications, lifestyle modifications, and cardiovascular risk reduction.
  • Coordinate referrals to electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiac surgery, and other specialists as needed.
  • Participate in pre- and post-procedural care for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, PCI, peripheral vascular interventions, structural heart procedures, and related interventions.
  • Educate patients regarding procedures, risks, benefits, and recovery expectations.
  • Monitor post-procedural recovery and coordinate appropriate follow-up care.
  • Reviewing laboratory and diagnostic test results
  • Managing medication refills and prior authorizations
  • Responding to patient portal messages and telephone encounters
  • Completing clinical documentation
  • Coordinating care with referring providers and specialists
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings
