About The Position

The Cardio Catheterization Technician performs a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist physicians in performing complex invasive cardiac catheterization procedures and surgeries. Inserts small catheters through a needle into the blood vessels and into the heart so that x-rays, angiograms, and other recordings can be taken to determine the heart's structure and function. Ensures the EKG equipment is in good working order. Monitors the EKG readouts and keeps the doctor apprised of anything considered abnormal. Positions patients and explains procedures. Prepares the patients for the procedure by cleaning, shaving, and anesthetizing the area of insertion. Assists physicians during open-heart surgery and with the insertion of pacemakers or stents. Performs quality control functions. Prepares and sets up medical supplies using aseptic techniques. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
