About The Position

The Cardiac Technician provides basic direct patient care as delegated by clinical professional personnel, in accordance with delegation law and rules and the technician’s current education. The role also supports indirect patient care by monitoring cardiac rhythms and related equipment in the Central Monitoring Unit (CMU). The technician maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for patients and visitors. CMU duties include observing cardiac monitors for abnormalities in heart rate or rhythm and equipment malfunctions; managing, collecting, cleaning, and maintaining telemetry ECG equipment used to monitor cardiac rhythms and/or SpO2; observing SpO2 and non-invasive blood pressure monitors; and potentially covering breaks for staff monitoring patients with telemetry orders in acute care. The technician documents and communicates observations and measurements, responds to emergencies according to Telemetry Policy, and assists with signal troubleshooting and systems management. The position also involves applying telemetry and SpO2 equipment to patients, assisting with reception and phone duties, maintaining supplies and equipment, and supporting safe, culturally appropriate, age-specific patient care.
