About The Position

A Cardiac Technician (CT) working in the Non-Invasive Cardiology Department works under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and/or designee. Responsible for performing 12 lead electrocardiograms (ECG), initiating holter monitors, initiating cardiac event monitors to include placement of electrodes, and preparation of preliminary reports for final over read by physician. Observes central display of cardiac telemetry monitors. Must be able to identify cardiac arrhythmias and respond to any changes according to policy and procedures to ensure patient safety.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent
  • Experience in a patient care setting, preferred
  • Previous experience performing 12-lead ECGs and/or interpreting cardiac arrhythmias, preferred
  • Computer experience, preferred
  • Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT), preferred
  • Must pass initial arrhythmia course with 90%25 accuracy, as provided by Erlanger, within ninety (90) days of employment
  • Must maintain a 90%25 passing rate with annual credentialing

Responsibilities

  • Performing 12 lead electrocardiograms (ECG)
  • Initiating holter monitors
  • Initiating cardiac event monitors to include placement of electrodes
  • Preparation of preliminary reports for final over read by physician
  • Observing central display of cardiac telemetry monitors
  • Identifying cardiac arrhythmias and responding to any changes according to policy and procedures to ensure patient safety
  • Maintaining 90%25 accuracy on cardiac arrhythmia test on annual basis
  • Maintaining constant observation of central telemetry when assigned to the central monitor room
  • Correctly initiating central telemetry as outlined in policy and procedure
  • Checking alarms on each patient admitted to the PatientNet system as outlined in policy and procedure
  • Notifying unit Staff Nurse and/or physician of change in patient's rate and rhythm in a timely manner, as outlined in policy and procedures
  • Documenting all notifications as outlined in policy and procedure
  • Initiating and completing all test/procedures as outlined by policy ad procedure
  • Completing initial reports to allow for timely and accurate over read by physician
  • Initiating Cardiac Event Monitor and effectively educating patient about equipment to be used, required documentation and process to terminate monitoring period
  • Initiating holter monitor and effectively educating patient about equipment to be used, required documentation and process to terminate monitoring period
  • Performing various electrocardiograms (ECGs), as ordered by the physician
  • Accessing Tracemaster (digital storage of ECGs) to print preliminary and final ECG reports
  • Basic understanding of cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology
  • Basic understanding of preliminary 12-lead ECG reports
  • Performing work assignments to best of ability that allows for maximum productivity in the department
  • Relieving for and returning from breaks/lunch in a timely manner
  • Maintaining a clean and clutter free work area
  • Managing necessary patient information with the Invision system
  • Maintaining current Healthcare Provider CPR certification
  • Understanding basic lead placement for telemetry transceivers
  • Troubleshooting transceivers to ensure reception in central telemetry
