The advanced practice provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) within the acute care hospital setting works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary health care team. This role involves performing complete history & physicals, ordering and collecting data, serving as a first responder for patient status changes, and assessing risks associated with patient care. The APP collaborates with the healthcare team in making diagnoses, managing diagnostic tests, formulating differential diagnoses, and diagnosing complications. They also formulate and implement plans of care, prescribe diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions, and may perform advanced procedures. Additionally, the role requires maintaining ongoing communication and collaboration with the interdisciplinary health care team, facilitating communication with patients and families, and documenting patient progress. Professional practice behaviors include preceptor/mentoring, education, engagement in research, participation in Grand Rounds and specialty meetings, and maintaining CEUs and professional organization membership.
