About The Position

Within the context of a patient/client and family-centred framework and continuum-based care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision, values and policies of the organization, performs cardiac ultrasound procedures, including 2-Dimensional, Doppler, M-Mode, and supports TransEsophageal Echo, stress echoes, and contrast procedures while observing patient safety practices. Duties include receiving and completing requisitions, entering relevant data and measurements into the diagnostic imaging information system, and preparing patients for specific procedures. Participates on committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned. Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized training program in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography.
  • Certified with Sonography Canada or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or be certified with Sonography Canada and have passed the Sonography Skills Assessment (CCSA).
  • Completion of Intravenous Therapy training course or applicable experience working in IV Therapy or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience when required by site practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice for Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with diagnostic cardiac sonographic equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform sonographic examinations in compliance with departmental standards.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the aseptic techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
