This position performs all required ultrasound and clinical evaluations at a technical level. The role maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self-motivated to increase understanding and knowledge of vascular disease and new procedures. The Cardiac Sonographer performs clinical assessment and diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations, uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images, and is responsible for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of the patient. The role also assists with the maintenance of laboratory accreditation and establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all customers. A thorough knowledge of cardiac and/or vascular anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamic principles is required, as well as knowledge of two-dimensional color flow and doppler wave form analysis, and understanding of age-related protocols for various testing. Excellent communication skills are essential for working with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare workers. This position may have access to medications for distribution to licensed personnel and may perform ultrasound procedures for a mobile outreach program as well as vascular screenings at various locations, which may involve driving Sanford vehicles, flying by aircraft, and occasional overnight stays.
