About The Position

The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing diagnostic procedures as well as assisting physicians with diagnostic procedures in accordance with departmental policy and procedure. This is a Full Time / Day Shift position working Wednesday-Sunday, 4x10 hours, with every other Saturday call. The role involves pre-procedure patient information gathering, ensuring physician orders match clinical information, greeting patients, explaining procedures, ensuring patient comfort during exams, proper patient identification, informing patients about result availability, preparing echocardiograms for interpretation, and ensuring correct charge entry and medication recording.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited imaging program or formal military or hospital-based applicable training program.
  • Has obtained either the RDCS or RCS certification AND is a current student who meets all graduation requirements to officially graduate within 3 months of hire.
  • Requires Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification through American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • May be hired without certification if registry eligible.
  • If registry eligible, must obtain certification within six months of hire date.
  • Healthcare provider CPR is also required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous hospital experience desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Performing diagnostic procedures.
  • Assisting physicians with diagnostic procedures.
  • Obtaining pertinent patient/clinical information prior to exam.
  • Ensuring physician order matches clinical information.
  • Bringing any questions about physician orders to the physician’s attention.
  • Greeting patients in a respectful manner.
  • Explaining the procedure to the satisfaction of the patient.
  • Ensuring patient comfort during the exam.
  • Properly identifying patient using standard safety practice (two patient identifiers).
  • Informing patient as to when results will be available for their physician.
  • Preparing echocardiograms for interpretation by cardiologists.
  • Ensuring all charges are entered correctly.
  • Ensuring medications are entered into the MAR as applicable.
