About The Position

This full-time position at Atrium Health Pineville's Echocardiography department is for a Cardiac Sonographer. The role involves performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, recording quality imaging, explaining procedures to patients, and operating necessary equipment. The sonographer will also maintain equipment, analyze patient medical records, prepare preliminary reports, participate in quality improvement activities, and maintain patient confidentiality. Opportunities for career development are available for Cardiac Sonographer I, II, III, and IV levels. Level 4 Cardiac Sonographers have additional responsibilities including research, inpatient weekend/holiday/on-call coverage, acting as a resource in leadership's absence, and troubleshooting equipment and EMR/Cardiac PAC systems. This position is eligible for a Sign-on Bonus based on eligibility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Sonography credential registration (ARRT(S), RDMS, RDCS) through ARRT and/or ARDMS.
  • Must be registered in appropriate cardiology specialties within one year of hire.
  • Completion of CPR Course – BLS Certification Required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with physicians, staff, and other Medical Center personnel regarding patient care.
  • Ability to communicate with patients of varying age groups.
  • Ability to teach and provide instruction and assess quality of other sonographers' work.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, effective working relationship with staff and leadership.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and maintain self-control.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Possible exposure to infectious and contagious diseases.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Completion of a cardiac ultrasound training program preferred.
  • ACS and/or RCS through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) preferred.
  • One year experience with patients preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and emergency echocardiograms, including 2D, 3D, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiograms.
  • Records quality echocardiographic imaging following procedural guidelines and protocols.
  • Explains procedures and potential side effects to patients and family members.
  • Provides echocardiography services at all necessary locations, including portables, working variable shifts, weekends, and providing emergent call coverage.
  • Operates equipment necessary for procedures and obtains optimal diagnostic recordings.
  • Maintains equipment in working order, performing minor adjustments and repairs, and reporting malfunctions.
  • Analyzes patient medical records to obtain relevant history and information.
  • Prepares preliminary reports for Cardiologist review.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities, evaluating technical quality and accuracy of procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient, employee, and corporation information.
  • Instructs students, fellows, nurses, or other health personnel as requested.
  • Communicates technical and patient care information according to established processes.
  • Attends Echo Lab Meetings and participates in Echo-related conferences.
  • Works weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.
  • Cultivates a collaborative and cooperative work environment.
  • Participates in dedicated research protocols (Level 4).
  • Performs portable and lab echocardiograms in an inpatient setting on weekends, holidays, and on-call basis (Level 4).
  • Acts as a resource in the absence of the leadership team (Level 4).
  • Actively participates in educational opportunities (Level 4).
  • Serves as a role model for other cardiac sonographers (Level 4).
  • Troubleshoots Cardiac Ultrasound equipment issues (Level 4).
  • Troubleshoots issues with EMR and Cardiac PAC system (Level 4).
