About The Position

Performs all echocardiography lab exams. Provides quality patient care using lab physiological and ultrasound equipment. Assists with clinical rotations in both in-patient and out-patient settings as the schedule dictates and participates in after hours and on-call services. This position is bonus eligible.

Requirements

  • Associate degree.
  • Graduate of a formal Radiology or Sonography program
  • One (1) year echo sonography experience performing non-invasive cardiac ultrasound studies.
  • Clinical rotations during a formal educational program may be considered as experience.
  • ARDMS- RDCS or CCI(RCS)
  • Knowledge of vascular anatomy and hemodynamics
  • Proficient computer skills (word processing)

Responsibilities

  • Performs most modalities of echocardiography (i.e. 2-D, M-Mode, Doppler, and color flow Doppler imaging, as well as assists with qualified physician with TEE procedures).
  • Performs lab procedures using independent judgement during the exam to accurately differentiate between normal and abnormal findings.
  • Exams must follow IAC approved scanning protocol, and the Smart Protocols must be utilized when possible.
  • Reviews images and paperwork to ensure quality exams are complete, thorough and prepared for review by reading physicians
  • Rotates to multiple lab locations as scheduled and required by the IAC.
  • Participates in the daily workflow by observing the sonographer worklist to ensure timely patient care.
  • Schedules exams through the transport system if applicable.
  • Participates in the Lab after hours, on-call, weekend and holiday schedules.
  • Operates all lab testing equipment and software packages including but not limited to ultrasound and physiological equipment, EMR and Structured Reporting and PACS.
  • Reports any equipment issues to the appropriate personnel and removes equipment from service.
  • Cleans the equipment and work areas daily and stocks rooms with supplies and linen.
  • Maintains up to date maintenance logs to include the monthly cleaning log and the equipment down time log.
  • Attends staff/departmental meetings and educational conferences.
  • Participates in discussions.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in the field and participates in collecting data, images and articles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
