The Cardiac Sonographer performs routine and emergency echocardiograms, including 2D, 3D, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiograms. This role involves recording quality imaging, explaining procedures to patients, and providing services at various locations with variable shifts, including emergent call coverage. The sonographer operates and maintains necessary equipment, analyzes patient medical records for history and symptoms, and prepares preliminary reports for cardiologist review. Responsibilities also include participating in quality improvement activities, maintaining patient confidentiality, and instructing students or other healthcare personnel. Effective communication, attendance at meetings, and participation in conferences for continuing education are essential. Level 4 Cardiac Sonographers have additional expectations, including participation in research, performing inpatient portable and lab echocardiograms on weekends/holidays/on-call, acting as a resource in leadership's absence, and actively participating in educational opportunities. They are expected to be role models and troubleshoot Cardiac Ultrasound equipment and EMR/Cardiac PAC system issues.
