About The Position

The Cardiac Sonographer Lead coordinates and organizes day-to-day sonography operations, including work assignments for sonographers, diagnostic imaging aides, and students. This role involves expertly performing routine and specialized sonography procedures of high complexity to produce quality images for physicians and other healthcare providers for diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of injury or disease. The Lead Sonographer is responsible for implementing and updating policies, procedures, and protocols to streamline workflow, improve efficiency, and strengthen radiation protection/safety measures. They ensure the timely delivery of accurate imaging services and oversee the efficient maintenance and operation of all radiological equipment. This position also serves as the liaison between Diagnostic Imaging and staff, physicians, patients, family, and other hospital staff, while adhering to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program OR possession of ARDMS evidencing completion of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
  • ARDMS-American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Upon Hire
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Upon Hire
  • 8 years of recent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated specialized expertise in diagnostic sonography principles, procedures, views, and equipment, including significant experience responding to traumas, code blues, medical alerts, STAT calls, and various hospital emergencies.
  • Proficient in performing ultrasound examinations with an in-depth understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology so as to recognize, prioritize and communicate suspicious and potential abnormalities.
  • Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
  • Time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline.
  • Broad knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and related information systems (Radiology (RIS), laboratory (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), EPIC, and picture archive and communication system (PACS).
  • Prioritize and delegate assignments based on experience, procedures, policies, and best practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Work autonomously, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
  • Identify and analyze data to solve problems that arise with little or no precedent.
  • Analyze workflow/processes and propose improvements or solutions that improve the efficiency of the team.
  • Ensure the privacy of each patient’s protected health information (PHI).
  • Build collaborate relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.
