About The Position

The Division of Cardiology within the Department of Medicine is currently recruiting for a Cardiac Sonographer II to support our clinical trials research initiatives. This role involves conducting diagnostic echocardiogram tests on patients participating in clinical trials, measuring cardiovascular health by viewing blood flow and valve movement. The Sonographer will also support the Cardio-Oncology and outpatient rapid access clinic efforts, completing required training, documentation, and administrative tasks for clinical trials, including making IS requests for DICOM images and uploading them to sponsor-provided platforms. Additionally, the Sonographer will schedule and communicate directly with clinical trial subjects and coordinate in-patient or post-procedure TTE requests.

Requirements

Two years of adult echocardiography experience required.
Experience with use of imaging enhancement agents, bubble studies or other specialties.
Registered Cardiac Sonographer, credentials RDCS or RCS.
Required BLS certification.
Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
Ability to successfully complete department-specific and research protocol-specific validation and competency testing.
Knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s)’ age.
Ability to interpret information to identify each patient(s)’ requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.
Considerable verbal ability to effectively communicate observations and input to research staff, physicians, and other department staff.

Familiarity with PACS (or current MUSC system) and EPIC EMR preferred.

Responsibilities

Conduct diagnostic exams on patients participating in clinical trials with an echocardiogram test using sound waves to create live images of the heart.
Measure cardiovascular health by viewing blood flow and valve movement with the echocardiogram.
Perform adult echocardiography studies and recognize, calculate, interpret, and analyze the hemodynamic data obtained from echocardiography studies.
Support Cardio-Oncology and outpatient rapid access clinic efforts by deploying to surrounding clinics several days per week.
Complete required training, documentation, and administrative tasks to support the clinical trials team.
Make IS requests for DICOM images and upload these images to sponsor-provided platforms specific to each clinical trial.
Complete feasibility, training, and competency requirements for study sponsors as required for individual study protocols.
Schedule and communicate directly with clinical trial subjects.
Coordinate in-patient or post-procedure TTE requests with MUHA sonographers and leadership.
