About The Position

Northwestern Medicine is seeking candidates who are CCI or ARDMS certified for a full-time Echo Tech position in Cardiology. The role involves performing echocardiography with Doppler studies, transesophageal echo, and stress echo procedures. The Echo Tech will instruct and prepare patients for diagnostic procedures, document patient heart rhythm and echocardiographic images accurately, and maintain age-appropriate technical and assessment skills. This position requires working under general supervision, performing highly technical cardiology diagnostic procedures, and instructing, preparing, and monitoring patients during testing procedures. The Echo Tech will also communicate significant findings to physicians, effectively interact with patients and staff, and ensure patient comfort and privacy. Additionally, the role involves setting up equipment, performing calculations and measurements, duplicating echo tapes or reports, attending safety and educational in-services, following safety policies, reporting equipment malfunctions, maintaining attendance and punctuality, and contributing to a positive work environment. Competency validation through ongoing performance appraisals is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements

  • CCI or ARDMS certified
  • High School graduate/GED is required.
  • Completion of accredited Echo Tech program.
  • Will work under general supervision performing highly technical cardiology diagnostic procedures, instructs, prepares and monitors patients during testing procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform echocardiography with Doppler studies, transesophageal echo, and stress echo procedures.
  • Instruct and prepare patients for diagnostic procedures.
  • Document patient heart rhythm and echocardiographic images accurately.
  • Maintain age-appropriate technical and assessment skills.
  • Inform physicians/cardiologists regarding significant conditions that require immediate attention.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, visitors, and staff in a friendly and cooperative manner.
  • Address patients’ physical and mental needs during procedures, ensuring comfort, privacy, confidentiality, and timely communication.
  • Set up equipment for echocardiographic procedures.
  • Perform calculations and measurements from M-Mode and Doppler data.
  • Duplicate echo tapes or reports for physicians and outside hospitals when requested.
  • Attend mandatory safety and educational in-services.
  • Follow hospital policies for safety and comply with department responsibilities during fire drills and emergency procedures.
  • Report equipment malfunctions to management and coordinate repair with Clinical Engineering or appropriate vendors.
  • Maintain availability and reliability in scheduled work, tracking attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Contribute to a positive work climate and support the overall team effort of the department.
  • Project a consistently professional image when interacting with patients, families, and external partners.
  • Maintain required knowledge and skills to perform assigned responsibilities at an acceptable level, as evaluated through ongoing performance appraisals.
