About The Position

This is a part-time position for a Cardiac Procedure Tech, working one 12-hour NOC shift per week with a rotating holiday and weekend schedule. The role involves assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) with daily patient care, including basic hygiene, repositioning, ambulation, and feeding. The technician will also perform general cleaning duties and support patients' activities of daily living according to their care plans. Key responsibilities include measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and daily weights. The technician will promptly communicate patient observations and concerns to the RN and may independently perform advanced patient care treatments as delegated by the RN. These advanced tasks can include arterial sheath removal, bladder scanning, Foley catheter insertion/removal, arterial blood gas collection and testing, telemetry monitoring, IV insertion/care/removal, telemetry interpretation, performing EKGs, and phlebotomy. The technician will monitor patients, keep the RN informed of their status, and follow established procedures for emergencies. They will also perform data collection for pain, procedure site checks, and extremity pulse checks, reporting findings to the RN. Accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record is required. The role includes preparing patient rooms for admissions and discharges, assisting with the admission/discharge process, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties that require lifting and pushing/pulling. Post-mortem care assistance may also be required. The position requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the life span and the ability to assess and interpret patient status based on age-specific needs.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the team member practices.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in acute patient care as a Nursing Assistant.
  • Successful completion of telemetry education and competency completion within six months of hire.
  • Must maintain competency thereafter.
  • Post hire, must maintain successful completion of unit-based clinical training in caring for patients with interventional procedures.
  • Candidate must achieve competency within six months of hire and maintain competency thereafter.
  • Excellent guest relations and interpersonal skills essential.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
  • Must be able to communicate, read and write proficiently in English.
  • Must possess basic keyboarding and computer skills.
  • Must function well independently and proficiently in a functional role.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the RN with the daily care of assigned patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, repositioning, ambulation and feeding.
  • Performs general cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Performs a wide variety of patient care tasks to support activities of daily living, as well as specific technical tasks and/or monitoring required for the patients' individualized written care plan.
  • Measures and documents blood pressures, temperature, pulse, respiration (TPRs), intake and output (I & O), daily weights, and other patient data as requested.
  • Promptly communicates observations, concerns and needs of the patient to the RN.
  • Independently performs more advanced patient care treatments as delegated by the RN, which may include but not be limited to arterial sheath removal, bladder scanning, insertion and removal of Foley catheter, drawing arterial blood sample and performing activated clotting time (ACT ) point-of-care testing on arterial blood samples, using telemetry system and bedside monitoring system, intravenous (IV) insertion, site care and removal (peripheral), telemetry monitoring and interpretation, performing a 12 lead electrocardiogram (ekg), and phlebotomy.
  • Monitors patient and keeps RN informed of patient status.
  • Contacts RN if the following situations arise: hypotension, dysrhythmias, chest pain, hypoglycemia or any procedure site complications; follows established procedure for emergency care that may arise while caring for the patient until the RN arrives.
  • Performs data collection for presence of pain, procedure site checks, extremity pulse checks and reports to RN.
  • Reports and documents in electronic medical record, accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions to the appropriate person.
  • Prepares patient rooms for admission/discharge and assists with the patient admission/discharge process.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
  • Assists with post-mortem care as needed.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
