About The Position

The Cardiac ICU Advanced Practice Provider (APP)—a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)—is an integral member of a high-acuity multidisciplinary team caring for critically ill patients with advanced cardiac conditions. The role provides comprehensive care for patients with cardiogenic shock, advanced heart failure, post–myocardial infarction complications, and those requiring temporary mechanical circulatory support, including ECMO, Impella, and IABP. The APP collaborates with cardiology, cardiac surgery, critical care, residents, and ancillary services, and contributes to education, care coordination, quality improvement, protocol development, and research related to cardiac critical care. The primary location is CMC in Charlotte, North Carolina, in an inpatient Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. The APP provides direct patient management, including advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, monitoring, and coordination of care. The role includes managing acute decompensated heart failure, cardiogenic shock, post-MI complications, vasoactive medications, inotropes, and mechanical support devices, as well as coordinating transitions between levels of care and transfers to tertiary facilities when needed. The APP works closely with attending cardiologists, intensivists, cardiac surgeons, residents, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, nutrition, and other ancillary team members. The position offers opportunities for resident education, professional development, advanced procedure training, and participation in quality improvement, protocol development, and research activities. The cardiac critical care center has a high volume of mechanical circulatory support and provides exposure to advanced procedures and a broad interdisciplinary team. This is a full-time position with 32 hours per week and a schedule of approximately 12–13-hour shifts per month. Shifts vary and include rotating weekend and holiday coverage; there are no call requirements. The listed pay range is $54.90–$82.35. The position is sign-on bonus eligible.
