About The Position

Wellstar is seeking a Cardiac Diagnostic Exercise Physiologist to join their team. This role is responsible for identifying physical mechanisms underlying physical activity, delivering comprehensive treatment services for health and fitness improvement, and early detection of chronic diseases. The Exercise Physiologist will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure successful patient outcomes within the Center for Cardiovascular Care. The position involves performing various cardiac diagnostic tests, monitoring patients, interpreting results, and educating patients on their care. The role also includes assisting with departmental quality improvement initiatives and ensuring equipment is in working order.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science or related field.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 180 days of hire.
  • BLS - Instructor certification required upon hire.
  • BLS - Provisional certification required upon hire.
  • ACLS - Provisional certification required within 180 days of hire.
  • ACLS - Instructor certification required within 180 days of hire.
  • Experience in cardiac stress testing, including populations such as cardiac patients, geriatrics, and diabetics.
  • Must possess knowledge of 12-lead EKGs, coronary artery disease, blood pressure, glucose monitoring, and treatment options.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart.
  • Knowledge of coronary heart disease, cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology, electrocardiography, 12-lead electrocardiograms, and cardiac stress testing.
  • Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English language.
  • Display a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Performs exercise stress testing, walking nuclear stress tests, pharmacological nuclear stress tests, and stress echocardiograms.
  • Performs pre-procedure verification process.
  • Monitors and interprets continuous 12-lead EKG while patients exercise or are given a pharmacological agent for stress testing.
  • Preps patients for exercise stress testing.
  • Communicates findings and status of the patients with the nurses and the doctors.
  • Monitors patients’ blood pressures in response to stress testing.
  • Uses independent judgment to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
  • Accurately enters required information into structured report.
  • Stocks rooms at the end of each day in preparation for the next day’s schedule.
  • Educates the patients on the function of the monitor and how to record symptoms or events that occur while wearing the monitor.
  • Registers the patients online for the event monitors.
  • Reads and interprets 24-hour holter monitors upon patient’s return.
  • Communicates with doctors and nurses regarding significant events found on 30-day monitors.
  • Returns patients’ phone calls regarding monitors.
  • Performs and assess patient’s respiratory response to exercise.
  • Communicates patient results to doctors and nurses.
  • Assists in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
  • Address problems with patient care, as they arise, and works to appropriately resolve.
  • Performs basic patient care tasks, as needed.
  • Ensures the equipment is in working order. Performs routine cleaning, preventative maintenance, and reports any equipment malfunctions to Supervisor or Department Manager.
