About The Position

The Cardiac Device Tech 1 manages implanted cardiac devices like ICDs, Pacemakers, and ILRs. They evaluate these devices for outpatients, inpatients, and in procedure areas. They perform pacemaker testing and remote monitoring. This includes interpreting data and recognizing life-threatening cardiac issues needing referral to EP or Cardiology Service. This position ensures patients and families are educated and receive necessary monitoring and follow-up instructions.

Requirements

  • Basic computer skills and electronic management of medical records.
  • Ability to use philosophy and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.

Nice To Haves

  • A certificate of completion from an approved device technical school, like Arrhythmia Technical Institute (ATI), is preferred. The school should offer a formal curriculum in cardiac pacing, defibrillation, cardiac resynchronization therapy, and electrophysiology.
  • Completion of rhythm interpretation and management education program (internal or external accepted).
  • Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias is preferred.
  • Proficiency in ECG interpretation is preferred.
  • Preferred to obtain IBHRE certification within 2 years of experience.
  • Completion of rhythm interpretation and management education program (internal or external accepted).
  • Completion of internal Cardiac Device knowledge check off required for those in the Cardiac Device Trainee position.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as resource to physicians and other practice employees about device patients and services.
  • Assesses the condition and appearance of the implant site and documents any abnormality.
  • Interrogates, interprets, and re-programs cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision.
  • Ensures charges are accurately captured for device interrogation.
  • Troubleshoots critical device issues and takes immediate steps toward resolution. Partners with physicians about device status and documents device testing in EMR for review.
  • Educates patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol.
  • Provides mentorship and training to junior staff in cardiac device interrogation policies and procedures. Teaches arrhythmia recognition to ensure safe testing methods.
  • Promotes a healthy clinical environment and good working relationships. Participates in positive, proactive inter- and intra-departmental communication.
  • Keeps equipment in good working condition and tells appropriate team members of problem areas or safety issues.
  • Ensures programming rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies.
