About The Position

The Hartford HealthCare Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) has an opportunity for an intensivist with a strong cardiac interest and experience to join a team of collegial and highly trained Cardiac ICU staff at Hartford Hospital. This role involves caring for patients with complex cardiovascular disease, including pre- and postoperative care, heart transplant and/or Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD), acute mechanical circulatory support (ECMO cannulation, impella and intra-aortic balloon pumps), and cardiogenic shock. There are opportunities for involvement and leadership within the ECMO program for experienced candidates. The position also includes educational opportunities with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), cardiology fellows, critical care fellows, residents, and interns. The successful candidate will be proficient in placing chest tubes, performing bronchoscopy, and emergent intubations. The Hartford Hospital critical care unit is staffed with highly trained advanced practitioners and fellows. The Heart and Vascular Institute is a leading program, with the Cardiac Surgery service performing approximately 1500 surgeries annually. The Advanced Heart Failure Service is one of the largest in New England, with high post-transplant survival rates, and HHC HVI performs an average of 40 transplants per year. Responsibilities

  • Care for patients with complex cardiovascular disease which can include pre- and postoperative care, heart transplant and/or a Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD), and acute mechanical circulatory support (ECMO cannulation, impella and intra-aortic balloon pumps) and cardiogenic shock
