About The Position

The Cardiac Catheterization Technician provides specialized clinical support in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions within a high-acuity hospital environment. The technician assists physicians during invasive cardiac procedures, operates advanced diagnostic and interventional equipment, and ensures accurate data collection to support patient care. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented clinical setting.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Cardiovascular Technologist program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or equivalent)
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Minimum of 18 months of clinical experience within the last 2 years as a Cardiac Catheterization Technician
  • No state licensure required (must meet all federal/DHA requirements)
  • Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
  • Familiarity with cardiac arrhythmias and interventional procedures
  • Ability to operate complex diagnostic and interventional equipment
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work effectively in high-stress, fast-paced clinical environments
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of infection control, sterile techniques, and patient safety standards
  • Maintain current and valid BLS and ACLS certifications at all times during employment
  • Failure to maintain required certifications may result in removal from duty
  • Must provide proof of required immunizations prior to start date, including: Annual Influenza vaccination Compliance with all CDC and DHA immunization and TB Screening guidelines
  • Maintain up-to-date immunization records throughout employment
  • Must obtain and maintain a Tier 1 (NACI) background investigation
  • Must be eligible to work in a federal healthcare environment
  • Adhere to all DHA, MTF, and Joint Commission (TJC) standards
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and respect for patient rights
  • Participate in required training and continuing education

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians in performing cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures, including but not limited to angioplasty, stent placement, pacemaker/defibrillator insertion, and electrophysiology studies
  • Prepare and position patients for procedures, ensuring comfort, safety, and proper monitoring throughout
  • Operate and maintain specialized cardiac catheterization lab equipment and imaging systems
  • Monitor patient vital signs and cardiac rhythms during procedures and report abnormalities promptly
  • Record and document patient history, procedural data, and results accurately in electronic systems
  • Perform equipment quality control checks, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Maintain sterile technique and adhere to infection control and safety protocols at all times
  • Identify anatomical and physiological abnormalities and assist physicians in clinical decision-making
  • Ensure proper handling, cleaning, and sterilization of instruments and equipment
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and notify appropriate personnel for replenishment
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary team members
  • Provide patient education and reassurance before, during, and after procedures
  • Prioritize workload and respond effectively in emergency or high-pressure situations
