About The Position

The Captain Aviation shall have command of, and overall responsibility for, the flight crew, passengers, cargo, the SAFE conduct of the flight, and provide guidance and coordinate the activities of every individual connected with all phases of the aircraft operation. The Captain performs duties and responsibilities as Pilot in Command (PIC), exercising final authority for, and responsibility of, the aircraft in support of Company goals. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and MGM Resorts International policies, practices and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • At least three (3) years of prior relevant experience in a related field
  • No FAA violations or at fault accidents or incidents
  • Must have logged a minimum of 4500 hours of total pilot flight time, 2500 hours of multi-engine jet time, experience operating large-cabin aircraft, and experience in advanced electronic/digital avionics cockpits
  • Must hold, or be able to hold, a type rating in one or more Company-owned aircraft

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a culture of safety with efficient procedures that support customer service.
  • Retain the final authority for the safe operation of the aircraft (FAR 91.3).
  • Direct the activities of the flight crew ensuring a full understanding of their duties and responsibilities.
  • Ensure that the assigned aircraft is airworthy and that all proper documents are on board the aircraft.
  • Make decisions as necessary to the start, delay or cancellation of the flight, or deviation from a planned destination when operating conditions dictate.
  • Obtain briefing on the purpose of the flight, weather, operating procedures and any special instructions, and plan flight assignments.
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of flight plan considering such factors as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities and navigational aids.
  • Ensure that weather and aircraft performance conditions can be met.
  • Ensure that the aircraft weight and balance form/manifest is properly completed.
  • Ensure that a flight plan or other authorized flight locating procedures is followed on each flight.
  • Report all known or suspected FAA violations or incidents promptly to the Vice President of Aviation.
  • Ensure that crewmembers brief all passengers with the appropriate briefing for each phase of flight.
  • Ensure that emergency equipment as well as provisions for passenger comfort are on board and ensure that all cargo is properly secured.
  • Ensure the preparation of flight logs, reporting of mechanical irregularities, and recording of maintenance, by maintenance personnel when maintenance is performed en-route.
  • Ensure that all maintenance discrepancies are passed to the maintenance personnel and that maintenance is alerted to the current status of the aircraft.
  • Ensure that the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight with all aircraft stores and appropriate catering provisions on board for the safety and comfort of passengers and crew.
  • May be called upon to manage other aspects of duty within the flight department not directly related to flight.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as requested.
